Surprisingly, airbrushing goes back to prehistoric caves in the south of France, where erstwhile artists blew pigments through hollow bones onto cave walls. This terrific book on the subject is not only imaginative but just plain fun. Nationally known airbrush artist Pamela Shanteau takes us into the realms of fantasy illustration, advertising, decorative T-shirts, cars, and motorcycles, producing high-gloss, hyper-realistic imagery with input from fine artists, craftspeople, illustrators, and sign makers. Her comprehensive volume is a slightly larger and more creative manual than Jose M. Parramon and Miguel Ferron's The Big Book of Airbrush Basic Techniques and Materials. Whether you are airbrushing a 1957 Chevy or doing freehand body art, the results will turn heads. Recommended for popular collections.

While airbrush is the medium of choice for creating advertising and fantasy illustrations, it’s also popular for decorating T-shirts, cars, and motorcycles with high-gloss, hyper-realistic imagery; creating dramatic body and fingernail art; and even embellishing decorative objects, fabrics, and interiors.

Book Reviews of The Ultimate Airbrush Handbook (Crafts Highlights)

Book Review: great info
Rating: 5 stars I gave this book to my husband along with a new airbrush & it's been a great help to him, includes info that even the airbrush didn't company give.
Book Review: Don't Know a Compressor from a Moisture Trap?
Rating: 5 stars Curious about learning to airbrush but don't know how to begin or even WHAT you want to paint? If so, this is the book for you. It covers several of the more popular uses of airbrushes including painting models, on skin, cars, canvas and more. It will give you a good idea of what an airbrush can do and even provides a few projects through out the book.

It goes into detail pretty good when talking about different types of airbrushes, compressors etc. The information is up to date and will be vital when you are ready to buy your equipment.

This book covers virtually ever use for an airbrush but it only scratches the surface. If you are wanting to get into airbrushing I suggest buying this book, figure where you want to go from there, and then buy a book or take a class about the specific subject that interested you. For instance, there is a small section in this book discussing painting flames. It will give you an overall idea of what is involved but not much else. If after reading about it in this book, buy a book solely dedicated to the subject that interests you.

Overall, this book will give you a very broad picture of the world of airbrushing. I think it is a perfect place to start you on your adventure but is in no way the end all and be all of airbrush books. This book is printed on high quality paper with vibrant eye pleasing color photos. Add this one to your collection today!

Book Review: Ultimate Airbrush Handbook
Rating: 5 stars Excellent. As the title states the "ultimate". Should be the first book purchased, borrowed or stolen for the enthusiast.
Book Review: Great book
Rating: 5 stars I've read other "how to airbrush" books, but this one is the best.
There is something for everyone from beginner (me) to advanced airbrushers.
From masking to freehand airbrushing.

Easy and simple to understand.
Once I received it and started reading it,I couldn't put it down.
So many things I thought I knew, but the book set me straight.

Other people on web forums had recommended this book, wish I had done it sooner.
